I have been gaming the 10.5 with Paderson Launch S shaft and it has been truly a solid setup. I have been tinkering with shafts with the 9.5 head and after the third shaft I have unleashed a monster. It has an Xcaliber Superlite55 S shaft and it’s a shocking combination. I have a slight downhill 353 yard par 4 that rises back up near the green. the closest I have ever been to the green is about 45 yards. Today I hit two back to back balls with the 9.5. They were well struck and straight as I walked to where the balls normally are I was a bit nervous as they were no where to be seen. I looked up and one was 10′ from the green and one was pin high.
All over the course I was in places I have not been in a long time. This is the longest driver I have hit in a very long time.
As a side note tinkering with the weight in these heads really changes spin rates.
Popeye. I’m thinking of the 10.5 with the Maltby shaft in a regular flex. I want to keep the ball lower but don’t want the 9.5. Tell me about the sound of the driver and how you think it would perform with the Maltby shaft. Thanks.
I have the adjustable KE4ST-2A. Decent head. Loud! Had to put yarn in it to lower the shrill sound. Popeye, how do you compare the sound of the ISO to other offerings, especially if you are familiar with the KE4? Also, how about size of sweetspot for off center hits? I was hitting my friend’s Callaway Epic Flash the other day and it is forgiving and goes a long way, but the sound is dull and the feel kind of mushy, like a slice of bologna between face and ball. But it goes. I like a driver where when you hit with sweet spot — or near it — you can kind of feel the springy compression and release. KE4 has a bit of that. My old Ping Rapture really had it. 63 years old, index 14.
Great feedback. I appreciate it. It is a great driver. My experience is the 9.5 does produce lower spin, which is good for most. Tinkering with the weight (and the shaft, of course) can effect spin. As I say with any driver, it takes some testing to dial in the optimum trajectory and spin. Happy your finding success with it. Sounds like you’re bombing it!
