I want to build a new set of irons and I am considering either the TE Forged or the PTM Chrome. I have compared all the playability information in both but the measurement that I would really like to know is which one has the horizontal CG closer to the center of the face.
Many thanks in advance for your help and congratulations for your knowledge sharing in this forum.
Our goal with the progressive weight distribution was to move the cg to a position that would make the long irons more stable, slightly closer to the toe side of center, and we did accomplish that. Jim’s reference was for the #6 irons, of which both are in the center of the face. On the PTM, the #4 iron horizontal cg is approx. .055″ towards the toe. That’s not much, but it does stabilize the head slightly more on toe side off center hits, which is the most common on the long irons. It is a longer blade length design, and with only .055″ variance there is no feel difference on on center hits with the #4 iron. Our goal is always to have the horizontal cg in the horizontal center of the face, and with some designs, like the PTM, we can modify the weight distribution in each club number to achieve the design goal.
