Switching heads from Maltby TS-1 Forged Iron to PTM Pearl Chrome Forged Iron but would like to use my existing SteelFiber i9. Doing this what can I expect? Will the club length be shorter or longer due to hosel depth? Any pitfalls that you can share with me. Thanks!
Doug. Hosel depth can be found on the golfworks.com website. You can also measure the entire length of the clubs. Use a head gun to take the heads off. What other information do you need? Are you set up to take the heads off?
Hosel depth of the ts1 is 1.375. Hosel depth of the Pearl is 1.2. In my mind you’d hardly notice a difference. I’ve switched out a lot of shafts and if there’s a difference I can see or feel you can adjust by butt trimming. Hope that helps.
The hosel depth difference is the main thing that could effect the length. The head size might contribute as well as the PTM is a slightly larger profile. That being said, I just took a 5 iron in each model and dry fit a shaft in each to see what the difference was in length. There was no difference. There can be slight tolerance differences in bore depths from set to set and head to head, but at least on the two heads I just pulled from stock and measured, there was no difference. Those tolerances should be not more than 1/32″ – 1/64″, if they exist at all.
