I’m reshafting a set of Mizunos for an old friend who is suffering a lot of physical limitations. I have a set of parallel tip UST Mamiya Recoil 440 ESX/F0 shafts that would be perfect for the 48g weight, and low kick, but maybe a little too flexible. If they were discrete length taper tips I would just hard step them. Will it be ok to increase the UST specified tip trimming on the parallel tips to gain some stiffness. What would be the sub-flex gain per 1/2″ over trim? Appreciate any input.
1/2″ would get you a little stiffer, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a flex. It is hard to say since I have not experimented with that particular shaft. Generally with graphite, an extra 1/2″ trim will stiffen by about 5 cycles, or 1/2 a flex, but I have seen with graphite that is not always the case. I have seen a 1/2 inch extra trim not change the flex at all. It all depends on the shaft.
