If the trim instructions call for a 3 wood shaft to be trimmed 1/2 inch for a normal metal wood, how much, IF ANyY, should I trim for a bore-thru shaft installation? My inclination is not to trim at all, since the shaft will penetrate at least 1/2 inch deeper into the hosel. Is a good rule of thumb to tip trim 1/2 inch LESS than recommended for any bore-thru wood?
Some manufacturers used to tell you to account for the bore through. In other words, just like you stated, if the trim was for 1/2″ for a standard bore, they might instruct to trim nothing from the tip for a bore through. Generally speaking, you would trim less for a bore through than a standard bore. Even if the manufacturer states that you trim the same no matter what the bore angle is, the shaft will play stiffer in a bore through than in a standard bore.
