I am working on re-shafting a set of Cleveland Launcher HB irons, and purchased UST Mamiya Recoil 680 SC shafts, which have a .370″ tip diameter. These are too large for the hosel bore of the iron heads. The factory shafts were True Temper Dynamic Gold DST98 S300. Anyone know what tip diameter I need? And going forward, what is a good reference to find this information?
USG, I’d be interested to hear how the performance changed with the Padersons. I tried a demo set of those clubs last year, and hit the stock shafts horribly. I like the concept of the set, but would definitely need better shafts.
It’s not uncommon for an unprepared shaft tip to be too large to fit inside the hosel, even when it’s the right size. I have found this to be especially true of graphite and composite shafts. (Of course you also want to be sure the hosel has been properly cleaned and prepped after pulling a shaft.)
According to the chart, the Cleveland Launcher HB irons take a .370 tip.
