DG to DG SL

An interesting thought is to build with lightweight shafts and doing grip-end weighting. That can give a lower MOI, but higher total weight club. Could give both more to work with early in the swing (pulling down the weight) and easier to release (less MOI). Maybe this gives a higher ballflight and higher speed? Or the other way around, a heavier shaft or added weight in the clubhead + a lightweight grip. Maybe this gives a lower ballflight and later release… just a thought.

Thanks Ralph. I think the lighter and slightly more flexible shaft will help.

The shafts have different balance points. The SL is tip heavy to maintain more normal swing weights. They still feel much lighter though, because they’re about 20g less in total weight which produces a lower MOI.

I raed the same thing on the True temper web site. I experimented with A dg x100 and dg x100 SL. i used the same 5 iron head/grip and cut the shafts the same leangth. The x100 was less then 1/2 swingweight heavier then the x100 SL,

I thought the SL were very tip heavy(and extremely tip stiff for that reason) in order for them to swingweight the excact same as the DG´s, even though they are lighter.

Golfnut9159, my calculation is that you will drop 1 1/2 swingweight points approximately. I really like the playability of the DG SL.

Ralph – I play 6- PW the M-45 forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. Actually this is a set the guy I bought them off of got them from you store as closeouts. I am at the point where I no longer am pulling the 7 iron at 150 and typically going to the 6 now. So I have used the DG SL shaft and like it a lot. I was thinking of putting in som DG SL R300’s in the set next spring to match my distance better with the flex. Maybe get a couple more yards. In reading the True Temper website, they say I can swap out the shafts and not get a change in swingweight. I find that hard to believe since I would be going from the heavy steel to lightweight steel. What are your thoughts? I plan on going with a 50G grip versus the 45G it came with. (The Weave). I have always liked a heavier feeling club, but I think it’s time to start playing something lighter.
