the below is a question that was asked a few months back…did I miss Britt’s response?

would be interesting to see how the markings on shafts compare to SST Pured..

Hi Britt,

I was building an ISO-T driver with MPF shaft for a customer the other day and I started thinking about the alignment marks that are on the shafts at 12:00 and 9:00 (which are big time savers). What is the method that the factory is using to align the shafts for the markings (i’m assuming that they are aligning and marking before applying the graphics)? Have you guys compared the accuracy of these marks against the information that the PUREing machine provides (and if so, how do they compare)?

The shafts are oscillation tested in a method similar to Pureing. That being said, the accuracy is not as tight as the Pure Specs Alignment System we use. I have not compared the marks on the Pure Specs machine, but I will and report back. Should be interesting.

We ran a couple of the MPF Driver shafts and both of them PURED in line with the white line. I can’t say all of the shafts would do the same, but the two we tested the white line was in line with the PURE test. The red line is for the graphics alignment and the white line is 90 degrees to the left (for a right hand installation). So, if you install with the white line up, the stiff side will be towards the target, which is what PURE recommends and how shafts are marked in the PUREing process. If you install with the red line up (graphics up) the stiff side would at the bottom, 180 degrees from the red line. This is fine as well and would be a stable plane. As long as the PURE line at 0, 90, 180 or 270, you have a stable plane installation. Again, the recommended from SST PURE is for the strong side to be towards the target. Important to remember that when the PURE mark is put on a shaft at the up or 12 o’clock position, the stiff side is at 90 degrees towards the target. So, on the MPF, when the white line is up, the stiff side is towards the target.
