Is there a standard weight for individual irons? Does this weight vary from manufacture to manufacture.
There is no industry standard weight for irons heads. Assuming traditional club lengths, or traditional standard club lengths, and assuming 1/2″ length progressions in the playing lengths of the golf clubs, you can get to general guidelines for iron club head weights. There can be variations in these “standards” based on the shafts that are used (specifically graphite vs steel). Each manufacturer will formulate what their specific models head weights need to be for the shafts they will use. Still, again assuming traditional lengths and progressions, the variations in head weights from manufacturer to manufacturer will not be that much. The base head weights we have used the most are: 3 – 240g, 4 – 247g, 5 – 254g, 6 – 261g, 7 – 268g, 8 – 276g, 9 – 284g, PW – 291g. Wedges will vary, but generally a standard 56 degree SW we will make 298-300 grams.
