I was such a fan of xcals especially in irons. They were very consistent as well. Now the search begins for a good graphite or composite shaft for irons. Other than aerotechs is there an economical suggestion out there. Many thanks. -Bill-
Gentlemen: I did extensive testing last summer and fall for alternatives to the XCaliber shafts by making up demos with these graphite iron shafts: Paderson Kinetixx, Kuro Kage, Project X, Recoil, Steelfiber. I was looking for a shaft that was tip stiff, low torque, and preferably low launching. Of course there are a number of options to meet those specs in steel, but I wanted something lighter that feels smoother than steel. My personal findings were that all of these shafts are excellent. They all felt great! Steelfiber and Recoil are tied for best, then PK a close 2nd, and KK and PX a close 3rd. The Project X feels best but launches a little higher. Frankly, although I’ll miss the XCaliber line at least this year, I feel that I have numerous other excellent options! Hope this helps! Michael
Very informative Michael. The Aerotechs are little pricey on my budget, but the Project X, even though they could be a little soft are a shaft I’d look at. The Recoils at .370 for irons is fairly economical as well.
