According to Callaway, you can adjust the loft and not affect the face angle. What they do is that they measure every setting with the face manipulated to square. When you do that, the lofts do change and the face angle does not change. The traditional way to measure face angle is with the driver soled where is rests naturally on it’s sole. Since adjustable drivers have become the norm and the sole designs have become so intricate, you really can’t do that and get reasonable face angle readings on many drivers. Nobody really soles the driver on the ground at address anyway. By setting the face at square in the gauge, the sole actually touches the ground right at the front of the sole. When you do that, I guess you can say that the lofts change without the face angle changing. I have a Maverik driver here and I measured every loft setting with the face adjusted to square and the lofts were dead on. If you let the sole rest or settle where it wants to in the gauge, the club face is way open, no matter what the setting. So, as long as the face is set up square, that angle will stay square no mater what loft setting you set and the lofts will be accurate to what they the adaptor says it is.
