Hey guys good afternoon my question is I recently just went on TaylorMade website with the new release of Tiger Woods p7 TW New irons and want to know your opinion and expertise on Milled grind irons and wedges even cobra has a milled face driver the new F9 I’m starting to hear a lot about these and how ,milled grind irons or wedges are more consistent then non grind irons and wedges from club to club even within the same set I guess the CNC machines or computer systems they use can more accurately design the consistency of the Sole maybe face etc what’s your thoughts and is this the wave of the future and will Malby design team feature this milled grind in your future products ?

Taylor Made came out with the milled sole wedges last year. Not surprising they are releasing an iron with the same. It is a nice looking club and as long as the proper 4 way cambers, sole angles, radius, etc. are the result, I am sure the sole performs well. With regards to the sole, I do not believe CNC milling is more accurate than designing the sole to be accurate without CNC milling. It really is just a skin milling they are doing. They are not CNC milling the entire head from a block. It’s an extra process, and extra cost and does not enhance playability. It is cool looking though. All the shaping of irons and wedges, specifically the soles, are done in the design stage. Yes, we will hand grind and create models to very exact specifications before we have the tool made, but once the tool is made and the club is produced, the only grinding that is done is related to the finish. It is more surface sanding than grinding. We do have models with CNC milled faces, which is the most common application for irons and wedges. We have no plans to offer milled soles.
