What is the ideal shop size, floor plan and layout. Sq.ft.
It really depends on what your going to do. If you are a business that is going to have some volume, then you need more space. If you are just wanting to build yourself a shop to tinker and work on your clubs (a maybe a few friends clubs), you can get by with a smaller footprint. If you need room for inventory (grips, shafts, heads, etc.), then you’ll need more space. If you going to employ anyone working in the shop and be open to the public as a business you will have to adhere to ADA regulations (Americans with disabilities Act). There are many other guidelines related to setting up a shop in a store front business. If I can assume your talking about a home shop, you can set up everything you need is space that’s 15′ X 15′, easily. You could go 12′ X 20′ as well and have plenty of room. Home or business, you will want to be have proper ventilation around the gripping area and shaft cutting area. Smaller footprints than I mentioned can work too, but again it really depends on what tools you want to use and what type of work you want to do.

If you are going into business… another thing to think about is setting up an area for a launch monitor. Most everyone being fit these days expects to be fit by a launch monitor. While not entirely necessary it is a great tool to show immediate results in better spin rates, launch or distance gains. A personal launch monitor can get the job done as well as a simple mat and net. Just something to consider. Not absolutely necessary but it is a great tool.
My shop is 12 x 12 with heat (need an air conditioner in the summer). It’s equipped with 3 6 ft work benches. I have a gripping station, multi-tool bench grinder, as well as a chop saw and drill press on one bench that’s where I due most of my dirty work including epoxy. I have a loft and lie machine for irons and hybrids on a stand. The two other benches I use for my MOI analyzer, Swingweight scale, frequency analyzer, putter bending equpment and loft/lie gauge. This equipment is stored on shelves that I can use one or two at a time. I do have a hitting net outside my shop which i can use with a Mevo and Swingbyte II, if necessary. I have racks built into the overhead to hold assembled clubs and shafts. 15 x 15 as Britt mentioned would be good. In a perfect world I would like 15 x 22 as that would enable a indoor hitting area.
