I am trying to use the shaft MPF score to guide me in my next iron shaft purchase. I currently play Project X Flighted (4B2M). In the questionnaire, I dont believe I need a hook or slice fix, but I notice that the majority of shafts are rated to help fix a hook. Would you please let me know why this is? Also, which specific metric is used to determine hook/neutral/slice correction? Is that based upon high, mid, low torque? Thanks.
Thanks Michael for stepping in for mcfarljc. You are exactly correct in your direction. All I would add is that the reason most iron shafts do have an “H” designation in the MPF is because the torque (torsional stiffness) is very low on most iron shafts, especially steel iron shafts. You basically said the same thing. No matter what shaft companies may tell you, torsional stiffness is a direct reflection of the tip stiffness of a shaft and the has a significant affect on the feel of the shaft.

Remember that the questionnaire gives general direction. To get the best fit, a club fitter needs more information to help you with greater precision. I’m sure you know that the torque or twisting of a shaft helps get the toe of the club through the shot which helps produce a draw or hook. Most better ball-strikers who can move the ball either way prefer low torque shafts so they can control the club face better.
To best determine what shafts, and clubheads for that matter, that you need, we’d need a fuller picture of what you want that you’re not getting from your current clubs and shafts. Other club fitters on this forum, like myself, can help you if Britt or others at GW are not available to respond. (Of course, you can call Golfworks for assistance, too.) Hope this helps. Michael
