I’m looking to remove a valuable/collector putter grip. And, of course, to preserve its like-new condition. It is a standard rubber-compound grip, not any sort of oversize multi-compound trip. Who can do this?
I presumed that the best method from a preservation standpoint was pneumatically blowing the grip off. But very, very few clubmakers seem to do that.
As Frankengolfer said, depends on how old the grip is. Rubber deteriorates. It may not look like it from the outside, but it might not be in good condition under the surface. If it has been wrapped up or not exposed to any outside elements over the years it has a better chance of surviving, but that is a rare case. Using our grip remover tool would be the way we would try it, but no guarantees. The grip could be OK, but if the tape underneath has deteriorated it could stick to the rubber and cause a problem when when trying to remove.
Just know way to know for sure if it can be done without seeing it, getting a look and feel of the rubber, and then trying it.
