I’ve entered my tournament off-season and I’m experimenting with some LZ 6.5’s in my irons. Was using DG 120’s in Stiff and I had issues with ballooning at my swing speed (115+ driver). The X-Stiff in the DG120 was ok but it just felt like more work and it didn’t help the spin and launch. But the LZ 6.5’s are working pretty well. I just don’t like a boardy feeling shaft. I play 0.5″ long (37.5″ 7 iron).

I rarely if ever hit full shots with my 56* and 60*. Definitely hit fulls and partials with my 50* and few partials with the 46*. How does the LZ 6.5 differ from the PX Wedge (TT0183) 6.5? Would you suggest I match iron or wedge shafts for the 50* and 46*?

I enjoy a kick to my woods and hybrids, they are a mix of Project X RDX Blue 70gr 6.5 and UST Mamiya ProForce V2 in 70 and 80gr X flexes, but tipped an inch or more. Those feel like they have softer middle sections to me. A kick but the flight and spin stay down at higher speeds. Hoping these LZ’s do the same.

I would say the difference in the LZ and the PX Wedge is not much. Hard to know exactly what True Temper does to create the Project X wedge, but my educated guess is it is simply a 1/2 shorter version of the 37″ taper tip Project X iron shaft. So if that is the case it, the PX is would be a slightly lower trajectory shaft than the LZ. So, if you like to keep the wedge trajectory down, the PX wedge would be the obvious choice. It might feel a little firmer as well, but some players might not notice.

If you like the LZ and you hit the 46 and 50 mostly full to 3/4, you could stay with the LZ on those. If you think you want to have a little more trajectory control in those or any of the wedges, then the PX wedge might make the most sense. One thing I can say from my experience, both playing and working with a lot of really good players, in the wedges like your 56 and 60 that you do not hit full very often, most go slightly more flexible. Example if they had 6.5 in the irons, the 56 and 60 might have 6.0. Gives a little more feel on the less than full shots. I worked for Dave Pelz many years ago and he was a big advocate of that. Just something to consider.
