I am completely reworking my bag, and I have a few questions. My new set of irons have 8i-G in the TS4, and 5i-7i in the TS3. One nice thing is that the 50 degree gap wedge let me go with 54 and 58 degree wedges, and I am very happy with the results. That opened up another club at the bottom of my bag.

I currently have the 19 degree FDI and then a 3-wood, but my current plan is to go with the TS-UI 4i and then to add either a TC Pro 7 wood or 5 wood. I am torn on which would be the better option in that gap between the 4i and the 3 wood. When it comes to adjustability, is there a preference when it comes to adjusting a wood up or down a degree? With the adjustability I could get the 5 wood up to 18 degrees or the 7 wood down to 19 degrees.

My initial thought is that the #5 wood would most likely fill the gap better. I base that on my own experience. I have the UI#4 iron and had a #7 wood, but found I hit those close to the same distance, so I went to the #5 wood. You can adjust the fairways like you described, but remember when you adjust for loft, you will affect the face angle. It might not be enough to bother you, but it will change. With the UI #4 being 22 degrees and the #5 wood being 17, I would hit them first before doing any adjustment.

All that being said, I don’t know what you speed is or what your distances are and it may be that the #7 wood would be the better choice to hit the distances you need. I was just going by what my experience was and what works for me. Could do both. I still keep the #7 wood and depending on the course and conditions, I can replace the #5 wood or the #4 UI and put the #7 in the bag in certain situations. Just something to consider.
