I built a set of forged TE heads and Arthur Xtreme shafts in 2012 and I love them. As I get older, I find I am losing distance because their old-school lofts have me hitting the ball too high. I am considering buying a set of clubs with the stronger lofts that are now fashionable. But I have not found a model that I hit as well as my Maltbys. Could I accomplish the same thing by bending my TE forgeds to stronger lofts. How much can they be bent? Does Golfworks do that kind of work? Thanks.

The TE’s can be bent stronger by a degree or two, but remember for every degree you strengthen them, you loose 1 degree of sole angle (bounce). We went one degree stronger on the DBM version. One degree stronger would still leave 2 degrees of bounce 4-7, 3 degrees on the 8 and 9 irons, 4 degrees on the P and 5 degrees on the Gap. that is what the DBM bounces are. If you go another degree stronger, you are reducing the sole angle on the longer irons down to 1 degree, which is playable, but doesn’t provide much room for error on the sole angle playability. 1 degree stronger loft might get you 2.5 yards, so 2 degrees stronger might get you 5 yards.

Thank you this expert response. My TE Forged 7 iron has 35 degrees of loft. A lot of the newer clubs (including the TS-2) have 30 degrees on their 7. If I can only get 2 degrees stronger by bending my clubs, and lose a lot of bounce at the same, it probably doesn’t make sense. Thanks for preventing me from going down that path.
