I looked through the forum and I think I know the answer but thought I would ask directly and get some opinions.

I don’t get along great with my current 52 degree wedge which is from the Kirkland set. I almost exclusively hit full shots with this club and rarely use it around the green (only the occasional pitch and run with a lot of green to work with). With this club, I dig like crazy. I live in Illinois, so am often playing in soft conditions.

I am eyeing a DRT 52 degree and am trying to decide between the G or A grind. I like the idea of the wider sole on the A grind, but I know the G grind is made for a more full swing shot type.

I already play a TSW 56 degree, as I don’t use it for full swing shots and love it out of the Sand because I can open up the face. I know that won’t be a good fit for me on the full swing shots I take with a 52. I also plan to get the DRT 60 degree in the S grind when I am ready to replace my Kirkland 60 degree, I just can’t make a decision on this 52 degree!

The G grind sole width on the 52 is .750″ and the A grind is .950″, so quite a difference. The S grind 52 is .770″, so you could consider it as well. Based on what you said about digging, the A grind would be the one that would be less likely to dig. If the Kirkland sole width is narrower, and you have trouble with it digging, it seems it would make sense to try the wider sole, which would be the A grind in the DRT.

The G grind and the S grind are awesome wedges with grinds that work for a lot of player types and swing types, but the one feature on a wedge that can help with the digging, to some degree, is the sole width, so that should direct you more towards to the A grind I would think.

Being in Ohio, I can tell you that the conditions can get rather soft as well. I have mostly played the G grind 48, S grind 52 and S grind 56. I would say I use those 80% of the time. When conditions get softer than normal, I switch the 52 and 56 to the A grind and have liked the performance. Again, I only do that when the conditions are definitely softer, but it works. I do not change from the 48 G grind. That is a full swing club that simply replaces the Gap wedge that comes in the TS4 set. I like the shape better on the G grind 48 for a gap wedge. I can get a little steep as well and the A grind on the 52 and 56 seem to perform better in those softer conditions. For what its worth.

Thank you – that is where I was leaning – the A grind in a 52. I will be playing the TS3 GW as well at 48 degrees, but really like the versatility of having a 52-56-60 after the GW in my iron set.
