Hi everyone, thanks to the forum for support while building my first set of clubs.

Attached a few pictures of my version of Maltby clubs. They are all MOI matched but to the 5 hybrid to 2655 kg*cm2. The shafts are from Cool Clubs, Silver I80, 80g, regular flex, hard stepped and frequency matched. Thanks to Mark from CoolClubs.com for the shaft fitting. The grips are Arccos Golf Pride MCC Plus4 in midsize, the ferrules are from bbandfco.com.

My whole setup is:

Evnroll ER 1.2 putter

56° Maltby Max Milled wedge

50° Maltby Max Milled wedge

PW TS1 with 44°

9 iron TS1 with 39°

7 iron TS1 with 34°

6 iron TS1 with 29°

5 hybrid Callaway Apex with 25°

7 wood Taylormade SIM 2 Max with 21°

Driver Callaway Epic Max with 10.5°

Now I only need the Canadian snow to melt….

There are various sources for “special” paint for golf clubs on the internet. I guess it’s normal acrylic paint. The only special thing is probably the very fine tip of the bottle. I used one of them.

Custom set of the year

I really like your loft/head gapping. 5 degree increments make sense. A long time ago it was common for people to use 1/2 sets with 3,5,7,9 etc, so I see no reason why we cant do 2/3’s sets, which you have effectively done. I have my set at 5 degree gaps from 8i to 58d and no PW. Now all you need is some electroplating skills, fill on the number stamps and renumber them properly ; ha!

what shaft length increments did you use?

if not 1/2″ (or moi spec 3/8’s) did you compensate the lie angles?

how did you deal with the headweight gap between 7 & 9?

To get it perfect I spoke with GolfWorks to receive heads at the lower and upper tolerance range. They could do this to a certain extent, but not completely. Then instead of adding or subtracting 1-2 g to the heads I “cheated” with the shaft lengths, favouring feel over equal length increments. But this is in the area of 0,1-0,15″, I’m not even sure I can grip the club each time that precisely. The calculated change in length was 0,625″ (50° @35,5″ and 6i @38″ and 3 clubs in between). I didn’t compensate for the lie, I’m not able to do it mathematically and empirically it’s to imprecise. I’m going to play them for a month or two and then do a gapping session with my pro.
Edit: I believe that a lie change of 1° moves the toe by ca. 0,05 mm in comparison to the heel. I like getting it precise, but that may be a bit over the top.

The lie alteration of 1* will definitely alter your moi, but you’ll still be within 1% of your ideal.

Have to love that software that comes with the auditor. Makes life a lot easier when dialing in the numbers.
