Last year I purchased a used set of Ping S58 irons.  They had TTDG S300 shafts, which were too heavy for me.  About that same time I had a iron fitting and was fit to Ping G425’s with the Alta CB AWT R shafts (65 gm I believe), D0 SW.  Because I like the S58 heads so much, I called Ping and they said they could re-shaft my S58’s with the AWT shaft.  I was so excited I forgot all about my swing weight requirements.  The S58’s came back from Ping with SW’s ranging from C4.7 (4-i) to C8.9 (W) which seems too light to me.

I’d like to reweight these clubs but am somewhat perplexed with the proper way to approach the process. I was planning on pulling the shafts without destroying the ferrules and tip-cutting the shafts to install the GW0121 tungsten weights.  But in plotting my course of action I see that unless I remove the existing ferrules off I’m going to have problems tipping the shafts the 1/4″ for the tungsten weight heads.

I really do not want to mess up these shafts in the ferrule area.  Any wisdom anyone can provide on the best way to proceed would be greatly appreciated!

P.S.  Also, should I use the Ping-specific ferrules (BB9108 .520″ OD)?

Thank you!
