I always thought it was interesting that I could put down a Maltby fairway or hybrid and it doesn’t look like it’s pointing left (as a righty) at the stated loft. Is that a lie angle or hosel angle thing? I can’t imagine a 0.5* open face angle does that. Earlier this year, I compared a TaylorMade Qi4D fairway to my Maltby TC Pro (7W) and Tour (3W) during a golf lesson, and the TaylorMade was super closed. I had to hold it off to keep it from snapping left. The Maltby was just a normal free swing. A few years back, I tried some Cobra Radspeeds that weren’t as bad as the TaylorMade, but they still had that left look. I played a Nike VR Pro Limited Edition up until the Maltby TC Tour fairways released because of this.
My question is: what is actually at work here? The stock face angle on the Qi4D is 0* while it’s only 0.5* open on the TC Tour. That can’t be it, can it? I can set the same lofted wood down next to each other and they just look way more different than half a degree.
