I know this isn’t directly related to clubmaking, but I have heard rumour that you were involved in the redesign of Nickent gear post-purchase by dicks sporting goods. Are they still owned by DSG and are you still involved in their designs (e.g. their newer 4dx package sets)?
We had a little input in the post purchase Nickent irons, advising on how to enhance the playability, but that’s about it. Ralph was not involved directly but we used the Maltby Playability standards to evaluate and advise on the design. Specifically the 2011 6DX iron, which came out to 893 MPF points (Ultra Game Improvement). I believe the IP (intellectual property, trademarks, etc.) are still owned by Dick’s, but I don’t think they have or are planning anything new in a Nickent product. Although we have been involved some in the past on some of the Maxfli club designs and Tommy Armour designs (mostly consulting, not directly designing and not all of the designs), we generally are not involved in designs of the brands owned by Dick’s.

It does seem that as recent as last year they are continuing to revise their Nickent 4DX Entry-level package, or at least applying new colour schemes every year or two, but the design does seem to have been the same since at least around 2017-2019.
I’m still learning golf and the set I had borrowed was way too short and flexible for me (actually a womens set and I’m 6’1″ with a fair amount of weight and swing speed behind me), making it near impossible to play, so I’ve picked up a 2022 +1″ Stiff Nickent 4DX package set as a starting point to learn with. Hopefully they applied some of that early advice on their newer entry level kits!
