Need to get some feedback from people who know more about fitting on head and shaft comps. Was fit into Mizuno Jpx 925 forged with project x LS 6.0 shafts (which are discontinued now?) Also hit the Maxfli xc2 well – was hoping to get a comp closer to a Maltby head.

1. What Maltby head is closest to JPX 925 forged/maxfli xc2?

2. Since the project x LS is discontinued what are some shafts with the same or most similar profile? Need something low launch and spin.

My current set is Wilson staff Ci7 with stiff true temper tx105 flighted shafts. I hit them well but with too much spin. My 32deg 7 iron was carrying in the 150 yd range with spin in the 7500ish range so looking to bring that down. Steep angle of attack and swing speed in the 91-92mph range.

In fitting I found I strike higher on the face and more heel side than toe which when looking at the MPF charts for the JPX925 forged makes sense why I hit it the best (if I’m understanding correctly) since it has higher center of gravity and a heel biased sweet spot.

Generally, expected performance comparisons, based on the mass and dimensional characteristics, can be seen in the MPF. The Maxfli XC2 was designed off of our TS3. We took the TS3 profile and changed the cavity slightly, and strengthened the lofts. So the TS3 would be a good match to the XC2, but may want to strengthen the lofts by a degree, which we can do.

I would say the TS3 would also be the one I would suggest if comparing with the JPX 925. TS3 has a lot higher MPF, so should be more stable and forgiving. You could look at the new TS3.5, which has a little wider sole, but has stronger lofts and might help with your spin issue. The TS3.5 is the model the Maxfli XC3 was designed off of. Both are high Super Game Improvement Category irons.

As far as shafts similar to the PX LS, either a Dynamic Gold, Dynamic Gold 120, or the original Project X. Those are the lowest launching steel that True Temper has. I think they said the LS was lower spinning than the original PX, but both are low trajectory, stiff tip, as are the Dynamic Gold and Dynamic Gold 120.

One comment, if your swing speed with a #7 iron is 91-92 and you’re only hitting your Wilson #7 iron 150 yards, even with the 32 degree loft, there is something not working. At that speed with a 7 iron at 32 degree loft, carry should easily be 160-165, no matter how much spin your getting. I play our TS4, with 33 degree loft #7 iron, with a 7 iron swing speed of around 85 mph and my stock #7 iron is 165 yards. Not sure what ball you play, but that could be part of it as well.
