Good morning,

I’m looking for a little guidance. The Golfwrx thread started by Popeye has been very helpful but it has fueled my indecision.

I am looking for one more recommendation before I pull the trigger on a full set. Any insights one can share is greatly appreciated.

Currently, I play PX LZ 6.0s. I have played these types of shafts for years. However, as I have gotten older they are taking a toll on my elbows and I have to work a little harder to maximize them-this is causing me to get a little quicker with my transition and thus over-swing.

I’ve built out a couple PW test clubs to try to find an affordable graphite iron shaft:

TS3 with mpf+ stiff shaft:

Pros: affordable. Seems pretty stable.

Cons: Launches a touch higher than I’m used to. Shaft is much lighter (40ish grams) than what I have ever played.
Possibility: build the xs shafts but soft step them. This will make them play closer to my current setup—but still much lighter.

TS1M with Recoil 105 stiff shaft.

Pros: weight is only 20 grams less. Launches in my window.

Cons: expensive

I am also considering buying blind the Aldila NV iron shafts. The stiff shafts come in at 95 grams and are a good 10 grams heavier than the mpf+ shafts.

I have settled on TS1M heads. So, that’s at least settled. I don’t want to drop another $100+ to try out another shaft since I’ve already invested $200+ in this endeavor.

To help with any suggestions, here is a little more info:

1. I fluctuate between a 1-3.5 index. Ball striking and distance control are my strengths. My driver destroys my rounds.
2. 7i swing speed is 92-94 mph.
3. Driver ss varies between 104-112 depending on weather and how my body is feeling.

4. 51 yo and not getting any younger.

Some people poo poo on the idea of adding lead tape to shafts but I’m a fan of it. If you’re just looking to dial in a swing weight or a feel there’s no reason why you couldn’t add a long strip of lead tape to the backside of the shaft, starting just under the grip.

you could use this with the NV or MPF shaft to pickup just a little more weight.

Sounds like you have thought about this a lot and done some good analysis. Of the three shafts you mentioned, I did a little comparison. The MPF Pro Series+ X flex and the NV 95 S flex are very similar in profile. The NV 85 S flex is the same, only a few grams lighter. The NV might actually be just very slightly firmer. The Recoil Dart is similar i the butt section and tip section, but stiffer in the mid section than either of the other two.

Based on what you said, price is a consideration and the Recoil Dart 105 is the most expensive. Still, if that combination checks all the boxes, then maybe you have to consider. I do think the MPF Pro Series+ X flex, without soft stepping could work, or the NV 85 Sor 95 S. All three of those are similar to the Recoil Dart, but slightly softer in the mid section, and are less expensive. I don’t think the difference is enough to influence the ball flight, but might actually feel a little better. All are very good, flagship products that do really well for us.

That’s all I can offer based on what you have shared and the profiles of the shafts we have in our database. Let us know what you decide and how they work out. Really don’t think any would be a bad choice. Might be slight differences in feel, but wouldn’t think there would be a great difference in the playability.
