Hello, All. Here for your expert wisdom again. I’m greatly interested in a set of Maltby TS3 with KBS TGI 80 shafts. Without making them “over standard” length, I’m wondering if swingweights in D0-D2 range are possible. I’d really like to work off a 5-iron at 38″. Is tip-weighting possible to get the SW in the D0-D2 range? If not, what about shafts in the 90-95 gram range?

Our build team will assess and if there are any issues reaching the swing weight target you want, they will contact you. I don’t think there will be a problem getting to D0.
As for disadvantages to adding weight in the tip, we usually say that up to 8-10 grams is fine. Technically weight in the tip can move the cg that direction, but 8-10 grams is not enough to move it enough to make a difference in performance. We generally do not want to add any more than that.

At standard lengths and assuming a 50 gram grip, the swing weight with the 80 gram shaft should be in the mid C range, C5-C6. 95 gram shaft might get you to C7. So you will need to add some tip weighting to get to D0. Probably 8 to 10 grams, but you will need to dry fit the clubs to dial in the exact weight you need for each iron. Head weights have tolerances, as do shafts and grips, so what is needed could vary from club to club. You could use a lighter grip, or make the irons 1/8″ longer, or a combination of both to help gain a little.
