We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Ralph Maltby, founder of The GolfWorks, a pioneer in clubmaking, club repair, club fitting, education and one of the most influential minds in the golf equipment industry over the last 5+ decades.
Ralph’s legacy is not defined by any single innovation. He helped shape modern club fitting and design, authored foundational reference materials for the industry, and dedicated his career to helping golfers of all abilities play better through better equipment.
When Ralph founded The GolfWorks over 50 years ago from his basement in Ohio, he set out to give amateur golfers and professionals alike access to the tools, education, and insight needed to improve their game.
Ralph was truly unique in his ability to understand and communicate the physics of golf. He could communicate on every level and simplify complex subjects so all could appreciate and understand. It didn’t matter if you were a Touring Pro, PGA Teaching Professional, Head of Engineering for a major golf company or simply a young junior golfer just starting to play. Anyone who had the privilege of meeting him felt like they were talking to a friend.
As we reflect on his life and contributions, The GolfWorks Family is keenly aware of the responsibility of carrying on the legacy that Ralph built. We will continue to work every day to live up to the level of professionalism and excellence that Ralph stood for.
Ralph’s impact on our lives and business, will endure for generations.
