I am looking at building a TS3 Custom Set. I was thinking of using Graphite Shafts for 5,6,7, 8 irons and a steel shaft for 9, PW, GW. Is that the right clubs to transition to steel or should I just make the PW and GW as steel. What is your opinion of the Rapport Blue Iron Shaft vs MCA Tensei AV Silver. I heard the Tensei Silver Shaft was discontinued is that true?
First, the Tensei AV Silver Irons are not discontinued. They are actually new this year in the model we carry (MR0125). Both the Rapport or the Tensei are excellent options for graphite. As far as transitioning to steel within the set, I would ask why you think that is the way to go? Yes, some players will play graphite in their 5-PW for example, then have steel in their wedges, but don’t see many transition within the 5-PW. Nothing says you can’t and you may have a good reason to do so, it might just fit your game, and that is fine. It’s simply not that common. If you were to do it as you describe, I would think having the graphite through the 9 would be the better option, but again, I do not know what you’re preferences or goals or the reason you want to transition into steel the way you describe. All that matters is that each club provides the feel, trajectory, distance and overall performance you want from that club.

Mainly wanted the steel shafts for feel around the green. I have never played graphite shafts but see the value in the decreased weight to increase swing speed and distance for the longer irons In the short irons, I don’t need distance as much as control for 1/2-3/4 shots and chipping around green.
