I am looking for advice on club selection/gapping at the transition from longest iron to “something else.” I have the TE+ 5 iron as my longest iron, bent 1 degree strong to 24, playing at 37 inches, 1/2 inch shorter than standard. That gives me consistent gapping of 10 yards with the stock 6 iron which is 28 degrees. I carry the 5 iron about 175. Currently, I have a hybrid as my next longer club, LTDx 5 hybrid, also 24 degrees, playing at 39 inches, also 1/2 inch shorter than standard for this club. I carry this club about 190. I am satisfied with that gapping as well.

I’d like to try a TS-UI in the hybrid spot. Should I look at a 22 degree and bend to 21, or go with a 20 degree which would maintain the current 4 degrees between irons?

To put the question another way, what would be the expected carry length comparison of the current LTDx 5H at 24 degrees/39 inches (currently 190) OR the 4U bent to 21/38.5 inches, OR the 3U at 20/39 inches?

Difficult to know exactly how you will hit whichever one of the TS-UI’s compared to the LTD hybrid. Based on just looking at the lofts, it would make sense to go with the 20 to give you the 4 deg. gap, but you could bend the 22 to 21 and go with the 3 deg. gap as well. I assume the goal is to have a club you will hit longer than the 190 yard hybrid. Key specs are the loft, the length of the club and to a lesser degree the overall weight of the club. Shorter length with a stronger loft may not get you there, but it might. Best chance if we just go by the numbers is to to stronger loft and longer length, so the 20/39 inches option. One thing I will add is that the TS-UI is a driving iron type of hybrid. I use the #3 and #4 most of the time vs a traditional hybrid, but I do it because I like to hit it lower. If you need trajectory, traditional hybrids or higher lofted fairway woods are better. That being said, the TS-UI are definitely easier to get up than traditional long irons.

Only way to know for sure is to try an option and test. Either choice could work.
