Since I won’t be able to get fitted at Maltby, but I have multiple fitting options here in Kansas City, could I substitute getting fitted with a similar iron head?

What iron head would be the most similar to the ts1?

How many shafts can you go through in a fitting, and what should be the top 5-6 shafts that Maltby offers that I should try out for fitting if I have good swing speed and have always played stiff shafts?

What other numbers do Maltby need from the fitting to make the custom clubs for me?

The P790 is a perfect choice.

I’m in the same boat as mrtkopa. I definitely like the technology present in the TS1 through TS4 and I’m planning on getting fit soon. I’ll make sure the P790 is on my test list. Anything else you’d recommend? Looks to me like the Titleist T200-350 would fit somewhere as a decent analog too.

Britt is right and I am not suggesting anything different. This is just my not asked for opinion. If you have to choose a club head to begin with, the Callaway Apex Pro will look very similar and have lofts very similar and the head weight will be very similar. The forgiveness will not be the same of course as no one gets MPF designs more right than GW.

As for shafts, I doubt they would have them but if they do, please include the Rapport Core Blue Graphite Iron Shafts. These were designed with active involvement by GW (Maybe even Britt but I am guessing) and I am hoping to try them some day. Another option is always the Aerotech Steelfiber. The girls on the LPGA like this shaft a lot. I paired it with the TS-1 and for me it fits nicely.

Please do update how your fitting went. I am so curious as to how it turns out and then what your GW build ends up being. I did the same as you are planning and ended up delighted with my set.

That’s really helpful, thanks! I’m guessing I’ll have an hour to test, so I’d rather had a head close to what I’ll be getting and then test a bunch of shafts. I don’t know anything about club building, so I was thinking a p790 just based on how similar the clubs look. I’ll definitely try the apex and the shafts mentioned as well.

I’m a mid cap and would really like to get gapping and dispersion better than my f8 one lengths. It’s going to be a big change but I’m willing to put in the work to make it happen.
For a mid handicap, fitting gives you a good sense of trusting the clubs and really knowing the distances. Then it will be all putting and getting up and down. At least that is where it is for me right now. In my opinion you have all the right thoughts. Do keep an update for us please.

I would say just get fit and relay the information to us. We carry most shafts that are offered and can probably get models that we don’t carry if your choice is not in our offering. As far as club head models to try, doesn’t really matter. If you are wanting a blade type profile, then maybe get fit for a blade or players cavity. We would want to know the lofts, lies, lengths, shaft flex, shaft weight and material, grip type nd size. Having that information and you relaying what your preferences are for ball flight, and even passing on your clubhead speed and ball flight data, will help us decide as we discuss what options will work best for you.
