Looking to pull the trigger on some maltby irons. Swing speed with a 7 iron is around 80 mph. Having trouble deciding on a shaft. I demoed a Nippon modus 105 regular flex that felt pretty good. I guess my question is how does that shaft compare to say the Nippon 950 GH neo? I did demo a stiff in the neo and it just didn’t feel that great. Wasn’t able to hit the regular in the neo.  Would the regular feel a lot smoother?

Cheers

Thank you for your response. It is informative and helpful but still leaves me wondering what shaft to play and I know no one can answer that without trying the shafts out myself. Problem is my transition is extremely quick but I don’t necessarily have the fastest swing so having a hard time fitting into a regular with good dispersion. Would there be a shaft in a regular that would fit a quicker tempo that you could recommend?

The Pro Modus 105 Regular is a firmer regular than the Neo, and the fact that you have hit it and liked it, in my mind, points to it being a good choice. Their are a lot of other regular flex shafts that could work. True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 runs pretty firm in the flexes as well. It’s a low/mid trajectory vs the mid trajectory of the Nippon. The Dynamic Gold Mid 100 is a mid/high trajectory and is also 105 grams. Comes on in the .355″ taper tip, if that matters. So there is a couple of other choices, but you’re right, the only way to know for sure is to try them.
