You can’t use a 4 iron taper tip .355 shaft and simply install it into a 7 or 9 iron and te=rim fro the butt end to length. Well, I guess you can but it will not play true to flex or profile. You need the appropriate length of taper tip shaft for each club number.
To drill out a .355″ hosel bore to a .370″, first use a “T” size drill (which is .358″), the use a “U” size drill bit (.368″)and finish with a 3/8″ drill bit (.375″). You can start with a 23/64″ if you don’t have a T size. Be sure to measure the depth, make the bits to know when you reach the depth, and the be sure the head is secure in a clamp and the drill is absolutely, perfectly true down the middle of the hosel. If it’s not, you can create an off center bore and basically ruin the iron. A proper clamp that allows you to get the hosel bore perfectly set and a drill press that allows you to see and set an absolute true and straight bore angle is the best way to do it.
