Hello,

I recently assembled the FDI 4, new STI2v2 (5-P) irons along with the TSW wedges in 50, 54, and 60. The irons look and perform great—really impressed so far!

That said, I’ve been digging quite a bit with the 50° on full shots. This is my first time using a 50° wedge as a gap wedge, since I’ve always used a set GW before. It got me wondering—could this be due to the lower bounce (6°) or maybe the shape of the leading edge?

It mostlikely be something about my swing and between my ears but interestingly, I don’t have the same issue with my 54°, which has 10° bounce. I noticed both the DRT and Max Milled versions also have bounce under 6. I get that it matches the set GW specs, but I’ve also seen a lot of 50–52° wedges on the market with 10–12° of bounce. Curious what the thinking is behind keeping it low.

10 to 12 degrees of bounce on a 50 degree wedge is way to much in my experience. Of course there are all kinds of options to suit all kinds of players. A 50 degree is usually considered a GW that is more of a full swing club. Generally I would expect 4 to 6 degrees of bounce on wedges like that. Sole radius and leading edge grind also plays a factor.

On the TSW wedges specifically, if you are steep at all, they can be a little harder to hit. The shallower attach angle you have the more likely the TSW will perform well. They would also be better for neutral to firmer turf conditions. The Max .090 and 1.05 wedges would be for most more turf forgiving and fit a wider range of players. As would the the new DRT A grinds and even possibly the S grinds, but the S grinds will be a while before in stock. You can see on our website the player types and turf types that each of the wedges are best suited for.

Thank youn for the answer Britt. I really enjoy my 54&58 Max milled that I use with my KE4 max set. I’m leaning towards Max0.90 50.
