Hi there,
Thanks in advance to those who may be able to offer any thoughts/guidance as I’m considering putting together a custom Maltby iron set for a long overdue equipment upgrade. Some background on me and my golf journey for context, I am a mid-handicap Male golfer hovering in the ~15 hdcp range (typically play once a week from the Whites and shoot in the low/mid 80s with ~80mph club speed and ~155yd carry with a 7i, draw bias/miss), 31 years old 5’10” with a slender build and have been playing the same set of irons since I was 19: Callaway X-22s my dad gifted me when he left the game behind, they have A flex graphite shafts which I’ve come to learn over time are probably not what is ideal for me stiffness-wise but didn’t take the game serious enough to invest in an upgrade until now.
In looking into Maltby, I love the price points and reviews across the board and feel like with a budget in the ~$500 range there’s so much value to be had in putting together a custom 5-PW set that’ll last me for years to come in my golf journey. That being said, what recommendations might you have as far as irons (open to anything Maltby offers from the Super Game Improvement side down to Classic, though I tend to lean towards thinking Game Improvement is probably best suited for my game), specific shafts (lean towards graphite having gotten used to the weight on my X-22s), flex (probably Regular?), grips (small hands, never had my clubs regripped once!), etc…
Thank you in advance for your time and looking forward to hearing any thoughts/advice as well as answering any questions that could lead to a more information recommendation.

Hi Britt, thank you for taking the time to respond and offer some guidance. Much appreciated! In the time since posting my initial question, I also came to the same conclusion on which irons would suit me best: the TS3s seem like they’d be the right fit for my game. I’ve been doing a deep dive on the TS3s as far as the difference in price between the different TS3 Paks vs building a custom set for more control over the shafts in particular, as well as discussing shaft materials with a experienced local fitter who was able to watch me take some swings with the X-22s (though certainly not a true fitting session due to time constraints). He suggested I might be better off with a light steel shaft vs a graphite one, for more stability with my swing speeds. My follow up question for you is if you think the stock steel Score shafts in the TS3 Pak would be considered on the “light” side of steel iron shafts, and if not which of the custom shaft brands/models available you might be willing to point me in the direction of for some more research (currently looking at the Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 3 Tour 105 .370″ when building out a potential custom set, as it seems to be considered on the ‘lighter’ side of steel shafts).
Thank you again!
