I will be 64 in November and sneaking up on retirement quickly.  I am looking for more things to do with all this time I will be getting within a year or two.  As for my background, I only ever played golf regularly for maybe two or three years–and my last round of 18 holes was back in 1994 (I am ashamed to say).  But one season, I played with a friend mainly on a local nine-hole course and I ended up shooting a respectable 37 or 38 on the par 34 course regularly…but I was only 30 and 31 years old at the time.  So, I better call myself a beginner.

I honestly have no idea what my club speed would be these days.  I could hit the ball 160-170 yards with a 7 iron back in the day, but who the heck knows now?  I am right-handed and do slice the ball, especially the driver–but it has to be because I crank it too much when I use the driver.

My son has taken up the sport last year.  He is a high school teacher, so we will have many a day to play in the summer plus I have a couple friends who are egging me to join a league (they say I don’t have to be “good,” but they ain’t seen me [try to] play!).  With all that, I plan on playing fairly regularly in the near future.

I can’t rightly remember how I played 30+ years ago, but it seems like I was always afraid to hit the ball low, so I don’t think I tore up the ground much, if that makes a difference.  But I was also a line drive hitter and rarely had good loft–the only thing that really helped me back then was that I was an extremely good putter.

I was looking into a KE Max set because I believe I probably need to have as forgiving of a club as possible, but is that the best choice IF there is a chance that I might actually get better?  Is the KE Max something that you can grow with or will I hit a proverbial wall with them after a while?  In other words, should I possibly get a set of clubs hat I can grow into instead of a set that I might grow out of?

As for things like what angle I want a club to be bent or what kind of grip I want and other deep things like that, I honestly have no idea!  I just want to play golf, be reasonably “okay” playing it, and find a set that I can have for a while.

Thanks!

KE4 Max is a good choice. In the event you think you might out grow them, it’s doubtful. Good irons and those I know who hit them, love them.
Highly recommend you get fitted by a local fitter. Might post where you live, possible a forum member is nearby who can fit you.

That is what I needed to hear: It is doubtful that I will outgrow them.

Th best thing is that I live just south of Pittsburgh and I can jump onto I-70 and drive to Golfworks in about 2.5 hours. I plan on doing that in the very near future; I just wanted to have a semblance of a plan before I went.
