Hello,

Do AXE Tour X iron shafts have a lower balance point to make swingweighting “standard” iron weights easier? I am interested in reshafting a set of TE Forged irons with the AXE Tour X 105 irons. Wondering how much tinkering I will have to do to get swingweights in the D2 range. I prefer a GP Tour Velvet 50 gm grip, and would like to go with the recommended “standard” graphite iron length. Assuming all specs are dead on…can you estimate the swingweights of this configuration?

I’m also interested in Britt’s response, but if I may, I’d like to tell you that I think it’s one of the better graphite shafts on the market today. I favor the XCaliber line in general and the Tour X in particular for my customers.

There are lighter shafts, and higher launching shafts, but in a low-mid launch, these are excellent.

The Tour X do not have what I would consider a really low balance point. My calculation is on a 38″ 5 iron, with the 50 gram grip, the swing weight will be around D0. We list standard length for steel at 37.75″ on a 5 iron and on graphite 38.25″. I really do not go by this guide and the fact that the Xcaliber Tour X is 105 grams, it is more of a lightweight steel type weight. So, I split the difference on the length. The industry average is probably closer to the 38, even though many “tour” irons are still made at 37.75″ and most game improvement irons are 38.25″ or longer. The length you make them should be based on what fits you, not the shaft material. You may have to add a little weight to get it the D2 swing weight if you make them standard length.

Thanks for the reply, Britt. What is your opinion of the AXE Tour X iron shaft? I get the feeling it is a high quality shaft that compares in quality and performance to the Steelfibers, but at a more attractive pricepoint. Is this perspective reasonable?
