I’m thinking about getting some new irons to replace my OLD Nakashima NX-5’s. They are close to 20 years old at this point but we’re reshafted a few years ago with SteelFiber i80’s. I was fit into Ping i525 with recoil es 780 shafts but then had to have my knee rebuilt. Surgery and rehab are complete and finally starting to feel like I can start playing again…doctors say a few more months..ugh! Figured I’d start my research now. I’m 55 and a sweeper. Thinking about the TS3 or the TS1 IM (I really like the look of it). Thought’s on head shaft combo’s. Known GW since I went to college down the road and figure it’s time to consider them again.

Congrats on the recovery and getting back to playing. Of course my opinion will be biased, but you can’t go wrong with either the TS3 or the TS1-IM. totally different constructions and looks, but both highly playable with great feel. The TS3 would be slightly more forgiving with a little wider sole and slightly more offset. I can promise both will be more playable than the 20 year old irons you were playing.

As far as shafts, Recoil is a good product, as is the Steelfiber. We still sell both and both are good choices. Either will work with the two models of heads. The Steelfiber should play and feel slightly firmer than the Recoil.

Once you decide on the head model, I would just order or build a #7 iron with whatever shaft you want to try first and test. Best way to determine if the combination will work before investing in the entire set.
