I have had a Rapport Core Blue FW 70TS installed in a 3 wood for about a year. It seemed to develop a creaking sound last night at the range. I had this happen on a HZRDUS Smoke Blue 6.5 60 a couple years ago and a Gralloy ProLaunch Red X both on drivers and it turned out to be a bad cracks towards the adapter. I looked the Rapport over and don’t detect a crack. But flexing or slightly torquing the head does make the noise. My driver does move about 115-120mph.

I thought about removing and re-gluing the adapter back on. It would allow me to adjust the shaft in the orientation I want anyway. BUT I don’t want to fool with it if it’s a crack developing. I don’t know if the epoxy could have broken loose and that can make the sound or it only happens with cracks. Wanted to get some expert opinions since I have a 2-day tournament this weekend.

If it turns out it’s a crack and it may be the torque from my swing causing them, do you have a recommendation? Stiffer tipped shafts? Different models? I usually tip them an extra inch.

Generally when you have the creaking sound it is due to the epoxy. It may simply be an air pocket or a crack (in the epoxy, not the shaft) inside the where the bond between the shaft and the hosel or adaptor is. First thing we would do is to take it apart and re-epoxy. It does not happen often and when it does, in my experience, it happens when a quick set epoxy is used. They usually are more brittle than longer curing epoxies. The exception is our MAX Strength Quick set and the Tour Set 20 FC, which we formulated to be less brittle. Still, on full swing clubs I prefer the tour Set or Tour Set Plus.

If you remove the shaft and it turns out that the shaft is cracked, then let me know. I doubt that anything in your swing is causing this to occur, but without seeing you hit shots I can’t be for sure. You obviously have had issues with other shafts. You can try stiffer tip models, or stiffer overall shafts, but again, I doubt that is the issue. The Rapport have really stable tip sections. If you tip them an extra inch, the tip’s should be plenty stable and stiff enough.

Try the re-epoxy route and let me know what happens.
