I am considering cutting a three wood shaft from 43 1/2 to 42. Unintended consequences?
Butt frequency will increase (stiffer), other points along the shaft will be the same. Overall the swingweight of the club will be lower. by adding weight to the head, you’ll lower the swingweight and decrease the butt frequency (softer).
Thanks for correcting my typo
Adding weight to the head will INCREASE the swingweight from what it would be otherwise. That can be done to bring the swingweight back up to the same swingweight it was before shortening (if desired). If this is done the stiffer shaft will flex more than if it weren’t done, getting closer to the original stiffness before shortening. (No guarantee it will be exactly the same though). If there are better shot results without the head weight increase, go with that.)
