I’m a lefty looking for advice on how to choose between the regular and premium pak for the KE4 TC MAX Driver (i.e. MPF Pro UL shaft vs the Kuro Kage HBP 2nd Gen shaft).
As background, I used to play a lot of golf (caddied for years, played on HS team etc). I’m 57 now and for last 15 years am only able to play 2-10 rounds a year, but trying to play more going forward. Played Staff Tour Blades w/DG regular shafts for 20 years, then Titleist D990 w/DG S300’s for another 20 plus, then got a set of STi2 irons w/TT score stiff shafts last year – just to see if modern tech would make any difference. They are definitely more forgiving with my rusty swing and about 1 club longer than the D990’s. I also DIY MOI matched them for fun when I had them built.
Anyway, now I’m curious if a “modern” driver will make any difference. But only $200 curious, not $600 curious for one of the big name brands …. Current driver is 2012? TM RocketBallz 9.5 degrees w/Matrix X-Con stiff shaft (which I believe is 45g shaft) and D4 swing weight (I bought a Maltby SW scale to benchmark my D990’s which were all D5’s because I got fitted back then for +0.5″ length). Driver BALL speed is 150 MPH which I believe equates to ~100 MPH swing speed (I expect this to go up as I am trying to get more exercise too). Normal swing I hit driver straight or very slight fade. When I try to hit it hard often pull it or pull+hook it (don’t know why probably operator error). I’d say my normal tempo is smooth/medium.
So …. how do I pick between the regular pak with the UL shaft and the premium pak with the Kuro Kage? I assume I should stick with stiff shaft in either flavor? If I go with Kuro Kage should I get the 50 gram version or 60 gram (I assume 50 gram since I am getting older and hardly play and therefore need the lighter mass?).
And also looking at the KE4 TC IST Fairway and same basic question: regular or premium pack? If I go premium 50 or 60 gram shaft? I read here that the regular MPF shafts used in the fairway pak run stiffer than normal so not sure if that changes the calculus for fairway selection. Would there be any feel discrepancies if I mixed Maltby and Kuro Kage shafts in the long woods overall?
Thanks in advance for any input!
PS – I know you have heard this plenty but I really wish you would make one of your TS line of irons left handed !!!
