I’m in the market for fairway shafts that feel similar to a set of Recoil 95 iron shafts. My Recoil 95’s are F4 and soft-stepped twice, so they’re closer to F3. The GW website rates the F3 at 3B1M. I tend to hit my fairway woods lower than I’d like, so I’m looking at 3B2M options instead of 3B1M. The GW website has a ton of 3B2M fairway options for under $100. I would be grateful for information to help narrow down the options by focusing on shafts that roughly match the bend profile of the Recoil 95.

For example, I read elsewhere on this forum that Rapport Core Blue is similar to Recoil DART. Does that mean the Rapport profile is also similar to the Recoil 95 profile?

Are there any other shafts I should consider?

Am I understanding the MPF tool correctly in that there can be wide variability in bend profiles of shafts within the same MPF rating?

Difficult to compare a fairway wood shaft to an iron shaft. Because the raw lengths we analyze are way different between a wood and iron, the profile numbers can’t really be compared. that being said we can go on some of the data and our experience.

I really like the Core Blue Fairway. We developed it specifically for use with fairway woods. it would be as good as any, I believe, and could match well with the feel you like in your irons. Of course, everyone is different and you can’t really know without trying. The new MPF Pro Series Fairway we re-designed and is similar to the Rapport, but just a bit firmer in the butt section. Those are the two fairway specific shafts you might want to consider.

There can be a wide variability in the way shafts feel and the overall bend profiles within the same MPF. The MPF is more of an eliminator of shafts than one that picks the exact shaft. It narrows down to a segment based on the basic information asked the questions that are asked…driver club head speed or what club do yo hit from 150 yards, are you looking for distance, control or both, etc. After you find this category, then you really have to look at the features and specs of the shafts, as well as the information the manufacture provides, to narrow down the choices. We do have a vast database that we can look at detailed profile information and compare models that might fall into the same category. That information usually tells us what the difference might be.
