Figured I’d try a hail Mary here. While I’d love to snag a set of Maltby irons, I’m not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on my first new set of irons that I can’t swing and get specifically fitted for. I’m aware I could give Golfworks my fitting stats and they could suggest a build, but that isn’t a route I want to take.

When I asked their customer service about fitters that carry Maltby heads in the Washington/Oregon area, they said they don’t have a list of fitters for their clubs. So, I’m here to see if anyone on the forum knows of any fitters in the Pacific Northwest area that have Maltby heads that I could get fit to.

Thanks.

The golf industry, like other businesses, has intentionally made & promoted the ‘fitting’ process for their benefit $$$. In recent years they have intentionally made things more confusing for the buying public in hopes of driving you down the ‘fitting’ road. It’s now a major new New Cash Cow for them.
In recent years the industry standard for how clubs lengths are measure has been changed, they created more and more models of clubs, and types of clubs. They have intentionally never put in place a Industry standard for shaft grouping and shaft specifications (flex and torque).
A prime example of this is Golf Galaxy / Dick’s. Until recently you could walk in a hit any any & all the clubs your wanted if a bay was open. Now many (vast majority) have all but stopped this. They try and direct you into (a fitting appointment) and frown should you wish to simply hit several clubs. In fact myself and 2 of their employees just had this very talk last month. They totally agreed with the comments above.
Luckily (for now) there are still a few locations, and a few businesses, who haven’t jumped on the new trend of charging you for everything.. and if the buying public were smart they would stop feeding this new cash cow at the other businesses.

Fitting lie angle, length and even grip size, helps with directional control. Putting a golfer in a shaft that helps him with distance, height, and even some directional control through different torque, and correct flex, is important. Tiger woods said the two biggest issues with his amateur partners, was lie angle, and grip size!

I can understand the grip fitting thing MAYBE for a totally ignorant new golfer who understands nothing.. . but if you need someone to tell ya what size grip to use… your journey into decent golf is going to be a long one!

also… i think I read/heard somewhere that 78% of all male golfers use/need standard loft & lie.
