Installing a Ping 3 hybrid alta cb stiff shaft into a g400 5 hybrid head. Do I trim from the tip to end up with a standard stiff 5 hybrid?
Thanks for any help
Generally if you’re going from a #3 hybrid to a #5 hybrid, the head weight on the #5 would be heavier and therefor you would trim a little from the tip to maintain the same flex, then if you needed to adjust to a shorter playing length you would trim the remaining amount from the butt. How much to trim from the tip is difficult to know. All depends on the the difference in head weight and also the difference, if any, in the bore depth. Assuming the #5 hybrid head is 6-8 grams heavier and the bore depths are similar, I might trim 1/2″ from the tip. If the weight difference in more than that, you could go up to 1″, but I would not trim more than that. This also assumes the shaft tip is .370″, which it should be, and that there is enough parallel tip section length to trim from the tip.
