When building up the lower hand of a golf grip to +4, how many layers of tape (.015″ tape GW1118) is required to achieve the following:
using a .580 grip and a .610 shaft
using a .580 grip and a .600 shaft
while I’m at it, how about a .600 grip to a .600 shaft (I’m guessing 3 layers)
If you work off of the .010″ thickness of the regular build up tape we sell (BU2) your .600 on a .600 would be 4 wraps. Using the .015″ would only be 3 and it would be .005 larger. You just kind of have to do the math. The .580 on the .610 will expand by .030, so if you added one wrap of .015 you would .005 larger. The .580 on the .600 gains you .020, so adding 1 wrap gets you to .035″ which is slightly under the .040 which is what the +4 number is. Type of grip and how much natural taper it has can change the actual measurement, as can the amount of shaft taper from the butt. Just kind of have to with the best guess based on the math and do one and check the feel.
