I have a problem with changing the lie on cast irons and of course fairway woods and drivers. I know there are lots of adaptors for changing loft but how about changing the lie? I know that forged irons can be bent easily but I don’t have the bending machine….I did once but after breaking a few heads I sold it.

Hello, Crazy Bob!

First, let’s consider cast irons. Most cast irons can only be bent 1-2* and then only with considerable skill, as you’ve already learned. Others cannot be bent at all! Only a few can be bent more.

If your irons are not on that list, they may be bendable. Still, it is very wise to check before having them done.

As far as fairway woods, most of them are not bendable. Adjustable drivers, on the other hand, can be adjusted by changing the settings on the adaptor, although those settings are limited. Most have an upright position as well as open, closed and neutral face angle positions.

Before I make lie (or loft) angle changes for my golfers, I have them hit balls off a lie angle board to determine what, if any, changes need to be made. One gentleman wanted me to bend his wedges more upright. I tested him and he needed them adjusted more upright 2 degrees, but his wedges were unbendable. (He ended up having me custom fit him for the Maltby M-Series wedges, which I did adjust upright. He loves them!)

Whomever you choose to test you for proper lie angle and to bend your clubs accordingly, be sure they have been trained and certified. I hope this long answer is of some help to you! Michael

I am quite familiar with club bending and what clubs can and can not be bent. I have a lie angle board and have great success using it. I was just looking for a short cut. There is a Srixon Z series Adaptor. Pate 92 editon 3 of the Golfworks cat. I have also heard that some guys have purchased adaptors which allows them to change shafts just by simply unscrewing one shaft and screwing on another, of course both shaft and club have to share the shaft. One pro down here is a Henry Griffs pro and he has a whole cart with this type of set up which allows him to fit the golfer with different shafts, head, lies etc by simple changing them on the range.

What you are describing is what the club conex system can do (www.clubconex.com). Don’t know of any other adapters that would work unless the club was manufactured with one already like the Maltby ST-2A driver.
