I have a titleist bore through club that needs reshafting. Do I need a special shaft to do the job.
Definitely view the video!
the very first club I re-shafted (around 2000) was a callaway steelhead 3W. Tried a heat gun, no go, used a torch, caught the paint on fire, burnt it all the way to the metal, finally was able to pull the shaft (it was steel). Put in a graphite shaft epoxied it, stuffed a pin in the end, ground out the excess with a bench grinder, scratched up the sole. Only thing easy was putting on a new grip! My son took it to the range to hit (he didn’t want to as it looked frickin’ terrible), second swing the clubhead flew about 50 yards down the range and I made him take the walk of shame to retrieve it.
I was hesitant on doing thru-bores for a couple of years after that, but developed a relationship with a club-builder at Golfsmith, and he was able to educate me on quite a few things.
These days it’s still a half hour job for me, but it brings back the memories!
Oh, and the clubhead – did a repaint and reshaft on it in 2017! My boy hits it a ton, but again he’s got the game.
