Hello — I’m not sure how much to tip-trim shafts I’m installing in some older hybrids.
I want to re-shaft an old set of Ben Hogan CFT Hybrids with new UST Mamiya Recoil ESX 460 iron shafts in Senior (F2-A) flex to match my new Mizuno iron set, replacing the original Apex ‘3’ regular-flex graphite shafts.
I have the 3h, 4h, and 5h Hogan hybrids at 21, 24, and 27 degrees, respectively. My quandary is that Mizuno considers those to be 4h, 5h, and 6h clubs: their FliHi 4h, 5h, and 6h hybrids are 20, 23, and 26 degrees, respectively.
The Recoil shaft has a trim code of IR6; indicating I should trim the tip 1/2″ for a 3-iron, etc.
My question is: do I treat the Hogan 3h like a modern 4-iron, and tip-trim 1″? Or like a 3-iron and trim just 1/2″? With similar adjustments for the other two clubs?
Thanks so much for your help!
That makes sense — thank you!
