Hey there, I (40 years old) have recently re-picked the game up and am playing now once a week and at the range that or more and am improving well. I got fit a couple weeks ago into the AI Smokes from Callaway (which I was hitting well and consistently)… knowing full well I was going just to get measurements because I am set on Maltby because I like the company, community, and aesthetic. My SLIGHT preference is for the looks of the TS1-IM, but I know the TS3 would be “better” for my game at this moment…but I want to get a set I can grow with/into for the next 5 years more so than what is appropriate at this moment (which honestly would be the KE4). The AI Smoke’s MPF is lower than both the TS1-IM as well as the TS3, so would that mean that either would be somewhat appropriate for the forseable future? Also looking to get a couple max wedges—coming from a full iron set of Ping ISI-Ks…. Thanks for any help!

I’m a high handicap golfer with occasional days of brilliance. I play both the TS3 and the TS-1M. Really depends on my previous round. I’ve bent each set to match my TS2’s which I’ll be playing tomorrow.
I normally play 7-LW (all Maltby) backed up by Maltby hybrids KE4 TC Tour Hybrids 4 & 5, and a TC Pro IST 5H bent to 28* (that was scary).
Don’t think you could go wrong with any of them.

I think either the TS1-IM or the TS3 would be a long term pay for you. Yes, the TS3 is a little more forgiving. It has slightly more offset, a slightly wider sole and topline. The lofts are very similar. I still categorize it as a true forged players cavity design. Pete Callaway, one of our guys, designed it and is paying it and he is a good player. We have fit other good players with it as well. So you could continue to use it as you improve. The TS1-IM is a players distance iron and has more of a traditional blade look. Different technology with the high strength maraging steel face on a true forged carbon steel body, and has the injected polymer to enhance the feel. Still a Super Game Improvement MPF, so you really do not give up much in the way of forgiveness. If you like a more traditional profile at address, it might give you more of that look.

I really believe you can’t make a bad choice. Go with what you think you prefer to look at. Or, get a #7 iron of each and hit them to decide. Not that much of an extra expense to test that way before investing in the entire set. That is the beauty of what we do. You can order on club in your specs in each and test. Even with the extra expense of one iron, your total cost on your new set will be a value compared to any others.

Thank you so much for the complete response, your responses to my and others’ are definitely selling clubs just by the effort you put into the comments.
I think Im going to go ahead with a full set of TS3. Looking forward to calling in and getting a pak!
Also interested in the wedges, and I know it is also personal preference, but paired with the TS3 pak, would the most common bet be for a 54+60? Or a 54+58?
