My choices are between the UST Mamiya Recoil 660/680 and the Maltby MPF Pro series. Which is more consistent and provides the better shot dispersion? Also, to make a mid-flex is it better to buy an A flex and cut a little more off the tip, or buy and R flex and cut less off the tip?

Both shafts are excellent choices. They are really similar, so determining which would give you better dispersion is difficult, if not impossible to say. The Recoil is a little softer in the butt and mid section than the MPF Pro Series. The torsional stiffness is similar and the weights are basically the same. I really think you would have a hard time determining a difference if you tested both. Because the Recoil is slightly softer in the butt and mid section, it might feel softer. As far as achieving an in-between flex, you can go either way, but I prefer to go with the R flex and trim less.
