My basic swing is to sweep the ball. I know my angle of attack is pretty shallow and my compression suffers some because my face contact is too low. Typical 7i CHS is 76MPH and ball speed is 106. Height is 75ft. Distance off the tee is 150/55 carry but off the turf is 140. These numbers are very similar for Ping G400, Maltby TE (both of those sets have shafts that weigh around reg. 105 grams. I also have a set of Cobra AMPs with TT DG s300 and get similar results. I play to a 9-12 handicap.

Looking to build a set of irons that can help achieve better compression on turf contact. (yea I know I need to get a little steeper AOA) Is there a head would you recommend that could possibly help compression even if my AOA does not improve? Would soft stepping the DG S300 shafts help?

First, the DG S300 is a low trajectory, tour level stiff shaft. I think soft stepping would be the least you could do if you wanted to stay with that shaft. Why not just go to an R300? Also, the DG is heavier. I think staying with a shaft that is 105 grams would be better. There is a DG 105 and you might look at the Nippon Pro Modus 105. I like the Nippon product and it is more of a mid trajectory product vs a low trajectory, like the DG.

As far as heads go, I really like our TS2, which has stronger lofts than the TE. The loft difference alone will help with distance and the sole design is conducive to a sweeping type swing. The KE4 Tour + irons are another option to look at and the lofts are not quite as strong as the TS2. You might also consider our new KE4 MAX iron. It is an Ultra Game Improvement iron that is extremely solid and designed to be very turf forgiving. Would be great for a shallower swing plane. In fact, it would probably be my first choice.
